Lessons, search palette and transposing

The first two lessons come with their data to explore, and chorales can be filtered and transposed.

The lessons teach four-part writing with examples from the corpus. Every observation comes with a search that can be run right away. For now the data of the lessons matters most: it shows, for example, which basses Bach writes under the cadences of the cantus firmus and how often. The texts of the lessons are still being written.

Downloads and shareable searches

Chorales can be downloaded as PDF or MEI, and a search can be shared as a link.

More flexible patterns

New options find a pattern even when Bach decorates or splits its notes.

First version of the website

Search the 370 chorales of Bach for melodic, harmonic and rhythmic patterns and see every match in the score.

The website brings the search engine of the project to the browser. A query describes a pattern position by position: scale degrees, melodic intervals, rhythms, fermatas, figured bass or the intervals between two voices. The scores are rendered with Verovio and every match is marked in them.
